This is a very B1G week for Nebraska Football. Although it didn't start off very well with the Poll-by-committee dis of our beloved Cornhuskers, there was some good news. Ameer returned to practice, with knee brace, and surely lifted the spirits of team-mates and fans alike. Whether he will be fully ready by game time and can be effective remains to be seen. Young Mr. Newby has been taking a lot of the practice reps, and is ready to step in to fill any void. Don't forget that there is also our young man from Gainsville, Mr. Cross, who surely will be ready to pound the rock, given the opportunity.
This is going to be a tough game. Wisconsin at Camp Randall. They didn't look too good early in the season, but are playing inspired ball now. They played great against Sparty, showing prowess on both sides of the ball. Their offensive line is huge, averaging 6'5", 310#. They have helped their team to #4 in rushing yards in the nation. Their running back, Melvin Gordon, leads the nation in rushing and is second in touchdowns scored. And they have more than just him. They have a stable of athletes. And a tough and skilled defense.
Nebraska will have to play at the top of their game in all aspects if they want to win. Hopefully, during the bye week, coaches have been able to sort out some of the problems that have plagued the offensive line this season. Tommy Armstrong will have to step up his performance, especially with an injured running back like Abdullah. Kinda scary, huh?
Defensively, they just have to play solid football, fill the gaps, and keep Gordon off the edge. Our front four will surely be tested all day. Defense just needs to keep their eyes where they should be, and all will be right with the world.
It should be very exciting!
Hopefully, you'll be able to join GFN at Coldbrew's in Roswell at 3:30 this Saturdayto watch the game. 880 Holcomb Bridge RD is the address. Come early, as usual to get a good seat, have lunch, and prepare to cheer for the Scarlet and Cream.
Just a couple of quick reminders. This week is TEAM JACK FOUNDATION WEEK. The proceeds from the weekly raffle will be donated to this worthy cause. Also, Patty has procurred additional "special" raffle prizes for this event. And certainly, donations will be gratefully accepted. Hope to see you there. Bring the whole family, neighbors, friends, of come by your lonesome. You won't be alone for long. There will be plenty of Husker Fans with you to cheer with there.
